Dear Sharon,

My horse keeps hurting himself and I think I need some bell boots. My mom lost her job and money is tight. Do you have any suggestions for me? Thank you.

Dear Tiffany,

I am happy to hear that you are concerned with protecting your horse and am curious as to how your horse is injuring himself. It would be unusual for your horse to be hurting himself during normal riding activities. If this is happening, he may have some other issues that need addressing. Horses that have routine hoof care and have no other health or age-related issues such as arthritis, generally do not require bell boots for protection during normal riding. I do not put bell and protective boots on my horse unless I am making a fast competitive run. Be sure to discuss these issues and concerns about your horse with your mom.

Take care,

Sharon
