Sharon Camarillo at Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo
Hello from Sharon at the
Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo!

Being a part of the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo is one of the highlights of my year, and my career. As a competitor I always loved running barrels at the Astrodome, so you can just imagine what a thrill it was when Houston’s T.V. director, David Glodt phoned to ask if I would like to be included on the broadcast team. I was speechless! 2008 will be my 13th year to share the announcing duties with my long time friend Bob Tallman, Boyd Polhamus, and yes, girls, Boyd is just as cute in person; it is a special honor to work with Bill Bailey, announcer and Constable of Harris County, who inspires each of us on the announcing team with his humor, wit and friendship. I think we make a great team!

This year the rodeo and Livestock Show celebrated it’s 75th anniversary and the pageantry was spectacular. Houston Livestock Show Officials honored Reba McEntire with a star on the Star Trail of Fame as the only female entertainer to play to over 1,000,000 fans during her HLSR concerts. Fun was had by all, and I got an opportunity to congratulate Reba on her ever-growing, ever-changing career. Reba and I have been friends for many years. We barrel raced at the same time and ironically, the same year I qualified for my first National Finals Rodeo, Reba sang her first National Anthem. Red Steagall heard Reba’s great rendition of the anthem and the rest is history. Reba never looked back and I so admire her talent and her “cowgirl make it happen” spirit!

I am so proud of my involvement with the Rodeo, its committees and executives. Since 1932, the Houston Livestock Show has contributed over 200 million dollars to the youth of Texas.
